I am not sure where you live but if you are able to travel to the east coast there are a number of excellent historical places to visit. The interest in the topic can only increase after seeing sites such as
Bunker Hill,
Independence Hall, the
Paul Revere House, the
Old North Church where the lantern was displayed to indicate how the British would be traveling to Concord via Lexington, you can see the
Liberty Bell with it's famous crack, and it might be good to have a look at this
video which is sure to add some emotional attachment to his interest.
For all of the historical sites I suggest using the guides that are typically available on site. They provide a good service and give context and meaning to what you are viewing.
